A big thanks goes to the Inzitari family from the Zig Zag Motel for again sponsoring the Winter Cup.
One of the Lithgow Golf Club’s major events is the Zig Zag Motel Winter Cup and again the event attracted a good field. The Winter champions for 2017 were Robert “Darky” Millar who took out the handicap section and the scratch champion is Darren Hunter.
Millar’s round was very impressive as he was the only one of the winners to tee off early. Robbie blasted off around 8am when the course was covered by a blanket of heavy frost with the greens as hard as cement. He got everything out of his five and a half hour round to record the best nett score of the day — a 69 nett.
Handicap runner up was Brett Scanlon on 70 on a count back. Scratch champion was the consistent Darren Hunter who again showed his class when he returned a one under par round 71. Runner up was Andrew Burton on 72.
The Grade winners (major winners are ineligible) were:
A Grade: Winner Greg Dykes on 72 nett and runner up Max Nightingale 73 nett.
B Grade: Winner Michael Bennett on 70 nett from runner up Scott Hamment 72 nett.
C Grade: Peter Thompson was the winner on 74 nett with Tony Potts runner up on 75.
Grade scratch winners: A Grade, Steve Hall 76; B, Jeff Geddes 84 and C, Greg Jackson 98.
Nearest the pin winners: Tom Jennings, Rob Hawkes, Damien Marjoram and Darren Hunter (2).
Balls in the ball competition went to those with 76 nett ocb and better.
