There are many reasons for people to play the game of golf. For some it is to reduce their stress through physical activity or to challenge themselves in a competitive atmosphere.
Along with the challenge of playing this great game it is a chance to catch up with friends and make new ones in an open and natural environment.
Lithgow has always been well known for its wide array of sporting activities that the community has enjoyed at Its excellent amenities. Sport has also given men and women the chance to make life long friendships something that has continued on for decades.
A group of golfers have for many years shown the benefits that golf offers by honouring two of their friends who passed away all too early. The group gathered together a number of years ago to keep the memory of Peter ‘Munzo’ Newham and Brian ‘Grub’ Whichelo shining brightly by sponsoring the annual Short Course Championships in their name and it is known as the Munzo and Grub Day.
The popular event will be played on Saturday, December 6 at the Lithgow Golf Day with big numbers again anticipated on this important day.
The sponsors are made up of Eve Boutique and dozens of the Brian and Peter’s close friends.
Both Munzo and Grub were typical of Lithgow’s early sportsmen who played several sports in their younger days with the pair excellent rugby league and cricketers players like many gravitated with their friends and teammates to the game of golf.
It was a weekly occurrence for the pair to play their Saturday morning golf and enjoy the camaraderie of their playing partners — something that not been lost on their many friends.
The short course Championship is an excellent way to honour these two ‘good blokes’ and their friends and families will turn out and enjoy a day of golf and then gather in the clubhouse and reminisce of their good times with that they enjoyed with Grub and Munzo.
The Lithgow Golf Club would like all those who make up the sponsorship on this important day.
