Results Week Ending 13th July 2025

Drummond Golf Penrith have been a good friend of the Lithgow Golf Club and once again was the main sponsor of the Winter Cup which has become one of the Club’s major events.
Those who made it into the winners’ list certainly earned their prizes as the conditions were extremely difficult with icy winds, cold temperatures, sodden fairways and extremely quick greens and pin placements in tricky positions. But the conditions did not stop attracting a very big field that saw only one player break his handicap.
That was the A grade winner Justin Nelson (1) who took out the winning voucher with a score of 70 nett. It was a memorable day for one of the club’s most consistent golfers when he posted a hole in one on the second hole and then played good golf to with two nines of 36 and 35 for a one under par 71. It is not his first hole in one but is probably the most important as it setup his round to be the A grade Winter Cup winner. Early morning golfer Troy Luka can feel a bit unlucky as his shot on the second finished only 10 centimeters from the hole which stood throughout the day until the very last pairing when Nelson came through to snatch it off him with his ‘ace’. Runner up to Nelson was Mitch Luka 8 with a score of 74 nett. The scratch score of 75 went to former club champion Harry Bender (scratch).
The B grade winner was Ryan Gurney (11) with a score of 72 nett which was the second best score of the day. Gurney has been in good form of late posting a good win only a couple of weeks ago.
He had two nine hole scores of 41 and 42. Runner up was Jeff Geddes (16) with a nett score of 75 on a countback after a good back nine. Best scratch score in B grade was posted by Carlos Garibotto (11) on 87.
It was a good tussle in C grade with countbacks needed to separate the placegetters. It was up young Jai Osborne (21) who counted out runner up Julie Rosewarne (39) with both golfers posting 76 netts.
Osborne continues to show that he is a young golfer going places while it was good to see a happy Rosewarne who has not been playing long win her first Saturday award. She has been putting a lot of time into her game and it is paying off.
Brodie Carter took out the best scratch score with 99.
Vouchers winners were Andrew Burton, Troy Luka, Geoff Thompson, Dave Hicks, Gary Wallace, Darren Hunter, Anthony Oldfield, Kobe Hunter, Dennis Wallace, Blake Bender, Rod Bright, Ian Downey, Greg Jackson, Corey Osborne, Brandan Horner, Travis Cameron, Dave Warren, Dave Marshall, Dave Titcume and Josh Jones.
The difficulty of the conditions was shown by the fact that vouchers cut out at 78 nett on a countback. Out of the 20 voucher winners 16 of them come out of A grade with the B and C graders struggling in the tough conditions.
Nearest to the pins went to: 2nd hole Justin Nelson (hole in one); 4th Christine Peachman (245cms); 9th Gary Wallace (188cms); 13th Ken Durie (1050cms) and the 18th Darren Hunter (118cms).
Once again it is a big thanks to Drummond Golf Penrith and also club secretary Natasha Durie for organising the running of the Winter Cup.
