After the Lithgow Golf Course had been closed during the week due to the heavy rain, the course was re opened on Friday afternoon, although motorised carts were still banned.
On Saturday, the event was the popular short course stableford which was well attended considering carts were still not allowed.
The course was saturated in places with only low marker Rod Bright (3) able to handle the wet conditions.
Bright took out A grade finishing with a score of 39 points which was the best score of the day with the next best being 35 points.
A noted big hitter Bright lapped up the short course finishing with five birdies and his round could have been much lower with some near misses on the greens. The greens that had not been mowed due to the week of rain proved a real test for most of the field who were just glad to be back out on the course in the sun.
Runner up to Bright was Dave Warren (8) with a score of 35 on a countback. Warren played consistent rounds of 41, 40.
B grade went to Leo Murnane (17) who has shown some good form since returning to local golf after a holiday break. Murnane finished with a score of 35 points which featured an excellent back nine.
He counted out runner up Cameron Fortune (15) who also carded 35 points.
C grade went to Julie Rosewarne (30) with a score of 35 points.
Rosewarne who is a relatively newcomer to competition golf and has been putting a lot of practice into her game and it has shown in her recent results. Runner up was Carol Burton on 31 points.
Vouchers went to Kim Flynn, Greg Guest, Anthony Oldfield, Chris Goodsell, Brad Preston, Lachlan Roachand Carlos Garibotto. Cut was 34 points ocb.
Nearest to the pins were: 2nd Anthony Oldfield (199cms); 4th Greg Guest (264cms); 9th Les Goldspink (120cms); 13th Leo Murnane (92cms) and 18th Dave Warren (190cms).
Next Saturday’s event is a two ball aggregate.
The only other event held during the week due to the rain was Lithgow Vets.
It was the start of a good run of golf by Julie Rosewarne when she headed the field with a score of 38 points. Runner up was Steve Mays on 37 points with third place going to Mark Fletcher on 34 points.
Vouchers went to Leo Murnane, Dave Muir, Ted Healey, Dave Warren and Julie Murnane.
Brian Judge took out both nearest to the pins on the ninth (400cms) and 18th (610cms)
