After a week of sunshine the Lithgow Golf Course was starting to dry up, but some overnight rain on Friday caused the fairways and rough to go back to where they had been for a number of months.
It did not stop the club staging their weekly competition which was a two ball aggregate with a single event held in conjunction.
Conditions was extremely testing although the greens were excellent but they did test golfers with their speed.
It was especially pleasing to see the amount of visiting golfers that took to the course on Friday and Saturday afternoon.
The winners of the Saturday two ball was Ben Achurch (17) and Cameron Hann (31) who combined for a score of 72 points.
Achurch who has been in good form over a couple of months and has cut his handicap down dramatically was the dominant player in the team. He amassed a score of 38 points with consistent nine hole scores of 19.
Runners up were Ryan Gurney (10) and competition newcomer Luke Brown (29) with a score of 69 points.
Brown showed excellent potential carding the best score of the day, which was 40 points featuring a hot front nine of 22 points.
A single event was held in conjunction with the winning voucher going to Dean Stafford (11) with a score of 37 points and the runner up being Steven Mays (11) who finished with 36 points.
Vouchers went to Lachlan Drury, Josh Jones, Shane Best, Geoff Wheeler, Mitch Luka, Troy Luka and Brad Preston. Cut for teams was 62 points on a countback.
Nearest to the pins were: 2nd Anthony Oldfield (249cms); 4th Scott Achurch (550cms); 9th Steve Hall (216cms); 13th and 18th Ryan Gurney (292cms and 270cms).
Saturday’s event will be the monthly medals.
Wednesday Sparks Finance nine hole competition:
Winner was Darren Healey on 21 points. Runner up was Robert Peachman on 19 points and third place went to Alex Sparks on 18 points.
Vouchers went to Adrian Sharp and Dave Warren (cut was 14 points ocb).
Nearest to the pins were Steve Jennings on the ninth (360xms) and Adrian Sharp on the 18th (170cms).
Friday Central West Leak Detection nine hole competition:
It was a good couple of days for Luke Brown who was the day’s winner with 22 points and the backed up to post the best stableford score of the day on Saturday.
Runner up was David Spillane on 20 points with third going to Mitch Luka on 19 points.
Vouchers went to Mark Seckold, Brian Judge, Greg Guest and Les Goldspink. Cut was 18 points ocb.
Nearest to the pin on the ninth was was Greg Guest (495cms).
