Amazingly 45 golfers dodged the constant rain that fell throughout the morning and into the afternoon during the Lithgow Golf Club’s single stableford event. Virtually the majority of the early morning golfers were rubbed out by the rain that fell with constant storms but there is always someone that handles the conditions better than most and this time it was Travis Cameron (7). He produced one of his best rounds in months to register a score of 40 points.
Cameron played the first nine in 37 strokes and continued to play outstanding golf until the 18th hole but stumbled to finish with a double bogey on the final par three, but his round was still good enough to finish three points better than his closest competition.
His round of three over par was brilliant considering the conditions and also playing on greens that are still recovering from their recent coring. Runner up on a countback was Michael Saville (11) who started off and finished strongly. He had a tough patch between the 6th hole and 14th which coincided with the heavier rain but he still registered 37 points.
Counted out into third place was Justin Nelson (scratch) who played consistent golf and birdied the last hole to put the ‘cherry on top’ for a one under par 71 off the stick.
Vouchers went to Mark Seckold, Luke Brown, Brodie Carter, Steve Jennings, Max Nightingale, Dave Titcume, Chris Keller, Corey Osborne, Dean Stafford, Anthony Brown, Darren Hunter, Rod Clarke and Ken Mitchell. Cut was 34 points on a countback.
Nearest to the pins were: 1st Chris Keller (291); 4th Steve Mays (62cms); 9th Max McCann (114cms); 13th Mitchell Wallace (176cms) and 18th Steve Jennings (134cms).
