It’s been a busy period leading up to Christmas at the Lithgow Club with the course enjoying big fields during competition days and also an army of social golfers and businesses who are holding their Christmas celebrations on the course. The kitchen has been going great guns and Peter and his staff are to be congratulated with handling the big numbers who have been enjoying the club’s excellent kitchen. The board, green staff and club staff headed by club manager Natasha Drury would like to wish all members and social golfers a merry Christmas and good golf in the coming year.
Golfers were again out in force on Saturday for another of the club’s major events when the Summer Cup as contested.
There was some top golf played with 16 members of the big field playing to or bettering their handicap. Thanks was extended to Blayney Foods who was the sponsor of the event which was split into three grades.
The best nett score came out of A grade with another of the club’s young stars Mitchell Wallace (
recording a 66 nett. Wallace was “on fire” over the back nine with a 36 off the stick following on from his 38 on the front nine for a two over par 74.
Brian Judge (4) was runner up with 68 nett with his superb short game was on show during his par round 72. Best scratch score went to Harry Bender (scratch) with 71 off the stick featuring an excellent back nine of 34.
The B grade winner on a countback on 69 nett was Robert Peachman (16) who has been a constant face on the course over the past couple of weeks practising his skills.
Runner up on 69 was Ken Mitchell (14) who has found some good form in recent weeks and played some consistent form registering nines of 41 and 42. Best B grade scratch score went to “big event player” Steven Mays (11) with a score of 81.
Once again it was the girls who dominated C grade with the inform Kim Flynn (24) enjoying a good round of 69 nett following two consistent nines. Runner up was another consistent performer in Kim Burton (26) with a good round of 71 nett. Brad Preston (20) halted a female trifecta when he took out the best scratch score in C grade with 93.
Vouchers went to Damien Marjoram, Blake Bender, Chris Keller, Greg Guest, Kyle Egan, Ian Downey, Graham Dean, Kel Lampton, Les and Blake Goldspink, Mitchell Luka, Carol and Jai Osborne, Anthony Oldfield, Greg Jackson, Julie Murnane, Warren Kennedy, Andrew Burton and Paul Bosman. Cut was 74 nett neat.
Nearest to the pins were: 2nd Paul Bosman (132 cms); 4th Brian Bourke (207cms); 9th and 18th Greg Guest (112cms) and 76cms); 13th Greg Jackson (302cms).
The course will be closed for Christmas Day but will be back in action on Boxing Day with a two person ambrose on the Friday followed by the December monthly medals being held on the Saturday.
The Sparks Finance – Mortgage Broker Lithgow Wednesday nine hole competition:
Winner was Chris Goodsell with the good score of 23 points.
Runner up was Les Barnes on 22 points and in third place was Ken Mitchell with 20 points.
Vouchers went to Darren Healey, Greg Guest, Ian Townsend and Rick Cohen. Cut was 19 points ocb.
Nearest to the pins were Heath Egan and Brian Quick.
The Friday Central West Leak Detection and Plumbing winner was Dave Thompson on 22 points.
Runner up was Jeff Geddes on 20 points followed by third placed Julie Murnane with 18 points ocb.
Vouchers went to David Monk, Ashton Hunter and Ryan Gurney. Cut was 18 ocb.
