Hot, dusty, and strong winds — it had all the ingredients of a tough day on the Lithgow Golf Course, but a large contingent of the big field reveled in the challenge with 18 golfers playing to or breaking their handicaps.
It was a runaway victory for the winners of the two ball aggregate event with Carol Osborne (28) and Kim Burton (24) combining for a massive 85 points, 10 better than their nearest rival.
Both the girls tamed the strong winds over the front nine with Osborne recording a brilliant 23 points while Burton was also in hot form with 21 points. Both continued their excellent form over the back nine with Osborne recording a further 20 points to give her a personal score of 43 points while Burton finished one behind her partner on 42 points. The runners up on 75 points were Dave Warren (10) who had a good day out scoring 39 points while his partner Paul Bailey was steady with 36 points.
A single event was held in conjunction and it took a countback to decide the winner after both golfers finished with 40 points.
The winner of the countback was Kiran Gajula (18) from runner up Warren Kennedy (30). Those to play well and with vouchers were Harry Bender, Damien Marjoram, Adrian Sharp, Blake Bender, Christine Peachman, Paul Bosman, Pat Wall, Rob Edwards, Max Nightingale, Ian Downey, Don Wolfenden, Troy Luka, Steve Hall, Leonie Hughes, Ryan Gurney, Ross Harrington, Greg Guest, Greg Jackson and Robbie Millar. The cut was 65 ocb.
Nearest to the pins were: 2nd Damien Marjoram (69cms); 4th Justin McCann (192cms); 9th Darren Hunter (75cms); 13th Ian Downey (111cms) and 18th Kobe Hunter (215cms).
Wednesday Sparks Finance – Mortgage Broker nine hole competition:
Winner on a countback was Ted Healey front runner up Chris Goodsell after both finished with 23 points. In third place, again on a countback was Peter Williams on 20 points.
Vouchers went to Shannon Johns and Dave Thompson. Cut was 19 points ocb.
Nearest to the pins were Ted Healey on the ninth hole (497cms) and on the 18th Craig Holt (80cms).
The GA 18 hole competition was won by Kobe Hunter on 38 points from his father Darren on 37 points.
Friday Central West Leak nine hole competition:
Winner was Greg Guest with 23 points.
Runner up on 21 points was Brian Giblett with Michael Saville on 20 points in third place.
Vouchers went to Don Farnsworth and Dave Thompson. Cut was 19 points ocb.
Nearest to the pin on the ninth was Michael Saville (117cms).
Next Saturday’s event will be a medley stableford.
