Mother Nature continues to test golfers with the weather, if it’s high temperatures that saps their energy it’s rain, wind and chilly weather. The Saturday competition at the Lithgow Club was a stableford and scoring saw only seven players get the Valentine Day “Chocolates” out of 58 play to their handicap. Misty rain blew in and out over the course with slightly heavier rain coming in patches making it hard gripping clubs. The two best scores came out of A grade with two of the club’s past champions showing their experience and skills to post scores of 37 points. It took a countback to separate Darren Hunter (+1) and Harry Bender (+2) with Hunter having a superb back nine of 33 off the stick to give him the win with his round featuring four birdies. Runner up Bender finished with a score of 69 off the stick with his round boasting four birdies and an eagle.
Another countback was needed in B grade with Carlos Garibotto (10) counting out runner up Jeff Geddes (16) with both finishing with 35 points but it was Garibotto’s 19 points on the back nine that gave him the win.
C grade went to Geoff Wheeler (19) with 36 points which featured two consistent nines of 18 points on each. Runner up was Dave Muir (22) who started off on fire amassing 21 points on the front nine but cooled off in the misty rain over the back nine for 35 points.
Vouchers went to Greg Guest, Troy Luka, Justin McCann, Les Goldspink, Chris Keller, Lachlan Roach, Olwyn King and Justin Nelson. Cut was 34 points.
