It was with sadness that Lithgow golfers were met with the news that one of their long term members Greg Hunter had passed away during the week following a long illness. Greg was a passionate golfer who served on the board in a number of positions and was one of the club’s best golfers for many years having won the club championship and many titles around the mountains and was a valued member of the club’s victorious senior pennant team for many years. He was one of Lithgow’s many excellent sporting all rounders and apart from his expertise at golf he also excelled at hockey and squash along with a number of other sports. His legacy will live on within the club with his sons and grandsons having been introduced to the game by Greg and are making their own name in the game. The club’s condolences go out to his wife Fay and his extended family.
On a happier note a large field turned out for the club’s single stableford with golfers having to contend with some tricky pin positions and strong gusting winds.
The winner of A grade was Rod Bright (4) with a score of 38 points.
Bright had a number of birdie chances on the front nine but ‘could not buy’ a putt. Playing consistent golf Bright shot one under par from the fifth hole to the end of his round. He had to survive a countback from the club’s president Greg Guest (😎 who also registered 38 points.
Another good score of 38 points was handed in by B grade winner Rod Clarke (16) who shot a round of 86 following consistent nines of 43. Runner up on 35 points was Rob Peachman (15) who started off slowly with 15 points on the front nine and then came home with a strong nine of 20 points.
Deanna Goodsell (25) continued her assault on her handicap over the past couple of weeks finishing with the best stableford score of of the day 40 points following two nines of 20 points. The girls dominated C grade with Christine Peachman (22) finishing as runner up with 36 points. Like her husband Rob she struggled scoring 14 points on the front nine Peachman but hit top form playing excellent golf over the back nine amassing 22 points.
Vouchers went to Olwyn King, Rob Hawes, Mark Seckold, Dave Thompson, Justin Nelson, Julie Murnane, Neil Hutchinson, Jai Osborne, Brian Bourke, Andrew Burton, Paul Bosman, Ben Fraser, Jeff Geddes, Ryan Gurney, Geoff Thompson, Troy Luka, Jason Murray, Ken Mitchell and Dave Marshall.
Cut was 33 points on a countback.
Nearest to the pins were: 2nd Ken Durie 27cms); 4th Les Goldspink (234cms); 9th Steve Mays 213cms); 13th Olwyn King (495
Cms) and 18th Damien Marjoram (90cms).
The Easter Monday two person ambrose was a success attracting 34 teams with the winning team being Brandon and Paul Sanders with 60.5 nett. Runners up was another Sanders with Corey teaming with Jamie Sharjah to finish with 61.25 nett,
Third place went to the father and son team of Brett and Chase Nightingale with a score of 62 nett.
Vouchers went to Mitch Wallace, Gary Wallace, Zac Jones, Nathan Dick, Darren Hunter, Ashton Hunter, Jono and Brendon Van Veen, Dave Thompson, Clint Rochester, Les and Blake Goldspink and Robert and Kim Hawes. Cut was 66.25 nett.
Nearest to the pins were Shane Murphy and Gary Wallace.
Nine hole competition:
It was a three way countback to determine the three places Richard Cohen finishing with 20 points.
Runner up was Ken Durie and in third place again on a countback was Adrian Sharp.
Vouchers went to Brett Egan and Geoff Houlison.
Nearest to the pins were Brett Egan and Rob George.
The GA 18 holes winner was Paul Bailey on 40 points with the runner up being Blake Goldspink on 35 points.
The Central West Leak Detection and Plumbing winner was Mitchell Wallace with 23 points on a countback from runner up Anthony Brown. In third place was Michael Casey on 20 points.
Vouchers went to Jeff Geddes and Michael Saville. Cut was 18 points.
Nearest to the pin was Dave Thompson.
