The Lithgow Golf Club Short Course Championship again proved extremely popular and was again sponsored by the “7:30am golfers” who honour two friends who passed away a number of years ago. The Championship is known as the “Grub and Munzo” day in memory of Brian Whichelo and Peter Newham who were keen golfers and popular members with all throughout the club.
The vouchers for the event was again sponsored by Eve Lithgow and a big thanks goes out to all the sponsors of the event.
Young Jai Osborne (16) was the Overall Handicap winner with a nett score of 65 — four better than his nearest rivals.
Osborne has a big future in the game and is extremely dedicated.
His father Corey said: “He comes home from work and gets his sticks and heads off to play a few holes or practice his chipping and putting. “It’s good that we live virtually next to the course and it is even better for him now that the club has installed practice nets in front of the clubhouse.” Osborne registered an excellent 39 off the stick on the back nine to set up his win.
The 18 hole handicap winners in each grade is as follows: (in winner and runner up sequence).
A grade: Jason Murray with 69 nett on a countback with the highlight being an eagle 2 on the third hole. Runner up was Andrew Burton who also finished with a score of 69 nett.
B grade: Neil Hutchinson on 70 nett from runner up Geoff Wheeler on 71 nett ocb.
C grade: Steve Jennings won with 69 nett from Ken Durie on 70 nett.
Scratch winners were as follows:
A grade: Justin McCann was the winner with a score of 69 with the runner up being Justin Nelson on 70 ocb.
B grade: Ken Mitchell won with a score of 81 with Jeff Geddes runner up on 84.
C grade: Kim Burton was best with 96 with the runner up being young Harry Roach on 113.
Vouchers went to Chris Keller, Max Nightingale, Clint Rochester and Mitchell Wallace. Cut was 72 nett ocb.
Nearest to the pins were: 2nd hole Ryan Gurney (14cms); 4th hole Ian Downey (183cms); 9th Les Goldspink (70cms); 13th Mitchell Wallace (70cms) and 18th Dave Warren (250cms.
The nine hole Sparks Finance – Mortgage Broker Lithgow Wednesday competition:
Winner on 22 points on a countback was Michael Dykes.
Runner up was Dave Thompson also on 22 points from third placed Craig Pugsley with 21 points.
Vouchers went to Geoff Houlison and Rob George. Cut was 19 points ocb.
Nearest to the pins were Michael Dykes and Rob George.
GA 18 hole results:
Winner was Carlos Garibotto with 33 points on a countback from runner up Dave Warren.
Friday Central West Leak Detection and Plumbing nine hole competition:
Winner was Mark Bennett with 26 points.
Runner up was Mark Fletcher on 21 with Graeme Osborne third on 19 ocb.Nearest to the pins were Blake Goldspink and Luke Brown.
