Near zero temperatures and a Lithgow Golf Course that offered no run following recent rains still attracted a big field to contest the May Monthly Medals that were once again sponsored by Henry Plant & Equipment Hire Pty Ltd
The men’s tees were back to maximum length, freezing cold winds and sodden long fairways made scoring extremely difficult with only five golfers playing to or breaking their handicap.with
The medals in A, B and C sequence went to Blake Goldspink, Lachlan Roach and Luke Brown. Blake Goldspink (5) had a good week winning the Wednesday GA 18 hole competition and then backed up his good form to win A grade with the best nett score of the day. One of the good young golfers in the club, Goldspink is a noted big hitter and put it all together to card a round of 69 nett.
He started his round with consecutive birdies and then finished with a great back nine that featured another birdie and an eagle.
Runner up on a countback was Steve Hall (1) who used all his skill and experience to edge out scratch winner Harry Bender after both golfers finished with 73 nett. Bender (+2) had a round of 71 which is excellent golf considering the tough conditions.
It was a good day for the girls with Jo Banning (17) taking out B grade. She had a rough start carding a three over on her very first hole but put it aside to play some great golf to finish with 70 nett.
Runner up was Lachlan Roach (10) following a consistent round that saw him birdie the final two holes to register a 71 nett.
Bob Hawes (11) took out the best scratch score with 85. Runner up was Deanna Goodsell (23) continuing her good recent form with a score of 72 nett. Best scratch score was Julie Murnane (20) scoring 93 with her putter running hot.
