A highly successful Lithgow Ladies Golf Club Championships concluded and it was a big thanks to sponsors Westfund and Lithgow Auto Group who were represented at the presentation by Holly Bender and Angie Cambourn respectively. The highlight of the championships which were played over four rounds was the crowning of a new club champion.
The 2026 champion was a clear cut win to Joanne Banning (16) who finished 30 shots in front of her nearest rival. Banning is one of Lithgow’s best all round sportsperson having played hockey for the Australian Hockeyroos and also excelled as a district basketballer.
Since turning her hand to golf she has added another sport to her illustrious career. Banning had four rounds of 91, 88, 91 and 96 for a total of 366 with the rounds played in a variety of conditions with the course playing hard due to the wet fairways. Runner up to Banning was her good friend Olwyn King (20) who had rounds of 101, 100, 95 and 100 for a total of 396.
Banning also figured in the handicap section winning with a nett score of 302 nett. The handicap title was a lot closer with Christine Peachman (25) hot on her heels with a score of 305 nett.
The B grade champion is Kim Burton (27) who played consistent golf for a total of 413. Her rounds were 104, 105, 104 and 100.
Runner up to Burton was Julie Rosewarne (27) on 421. Her rounds were 109, 100, 102 and 110.
Burton also took out the handicap section with a nett score of 305.
Runner up was her namesake Carol Burton (28) who finished strongly with rounds of 78, 77, 84 and 73.
The C grade section was played as a stableford and the winner was Robyn Houlison (37) with a score of 131 points from runner up Krystan Griffiths on 114 points.
There was a good crowd at the presentation with Olwyn King thanked all those who participated it the championship and the sponsors for their ongoing support. She also thanked the Lithgow Golf Club Board and the hard working Natasha Drury for all their work to make the championship the success it was.
