It was good to see yet another newcomer make his way to his first competition win. After being a five day member and recently changing to a full member Craig Holt (21) took only two competitions to score a win and did so with partner John Bird (5) in the weekend’s two ball aggregate when they finished with 73 points. Holt has come to terms with his driver after only using his iron off the tee and this has paid dividends for him and returned the best stableford score of the day with 40 points even after making his usual visit to the fifth dam. Bird’s last hole birdie proved the difference in the placings with the runners up Brad Preston (17) and Dave Hicks (16) finished only one point behind the winners on 72 points. Hicks had a good day with a personal score of 38 points.
The singles event was a great tussle between Julie Rosewarne (26) and Leonie Hughes (31) and it took a number of countbacks to decide both the winner and runner up after Rosewarne and Hughes plus Jo Banning, Brodie Carter, Mark Seckold and Dave Titcume all finishing on 37 points. The back nines of Rosewarne (22 points) and Hughes (21 points) made the difference in the placings.
