There was a number of golfers that sizzled in the extreme heat during the Lithgow Golf Club’s stableford event that attracted a very large field.
The women have been dominating C grade, but young James Bennett (22) put a stop to that with a massive 44 points which was the best stableford score of the day. Bennett has enjoyed some great success since playing competition golf late last year and judging by his continuing improvement he will be one to watch in the years to come. His father and both grandparents are keen golfers and his home backs onto the seventh hole so he has plenty of opportunity to hone his skills. He was very consistent posting 22 points on each nine. Runner up was Mark Seckold (23) who also lit up the course with a score of 39 points a score that would usually be good enough for a win.
There were some excellent scoring in A grade also with the inform Darren Hunter (scratch) taking out the winning voucher with a score of 40 points but even with this good score had to survive a countback to secure his win. Hunter fired off six birdies on his way to a 68 off the stick and continues to be one of the club’s premier golfers. The unlucky runner up was another top youngster in Nathan Marshall (2) who recorded one of his best rounds to date.
Marshall’s home also backs onto the golf club and his two under par 70 boasting five birdies showing just what a talent he is.
Best in B grade was Chris Goodsell (12) who is another that is never far away from the placegetters in recent weeks Goodsell also had to undergo a countback against runner up Kevin Hughes (16) to win the grade. His back nine of 20 points gave him the winning voucher.
Those to figure in the vouchers were Geoff Thompson, Graeme Osborne, Robert Edwards, Blake Bender, Ken Durie, Peter Hall, Jason Murray, Kobe Hunter, Trevor Cameron, Les Goldspink, Gary Wallace, Steve Hall, Ian Downey, Robbie Millar, Max Nightingale, Blake Goldspink, Justin Nelson, Brad Preston, Leo Murnane and Greg Jackson.
