Finally, the weather allowed a big field to contest the monthly medals which were again sponsored by Henry’s Plant and Equipment Hire. Over the past Saturday’s, the competitions have been hampered by rain, wind and strong winds causing the closure of the course on some occasions. The July monthly medals had to be abandoned, but thankfully the postponed August medals could be played — all be it on a sodden cause.
The tough conditions did not deter a number of the up and coming youngsters in the Club to star, especially Riley Cameron (23) who has been a regular on the winning lists of late. He finished with 65 nett, a score that was six better than the next best. Cameron shot a round of 88 which was exceptional from a C grader especially with the lightning fast greens, tight lies around the greens and wet fairways. It will not belong before he will pushes his way into B grade. C grade was dominated by up and coming juniors with the runner up being Lachlan Drury (32) on 73 nett with the best scratch score going to Ben Achurch (32) on 94.
A grade winner was Dave Thompson (5) who plays more golf than most members during the week and it paid off for him when he shot a great round of 77 to give him a nett score of 72 nett featuring four birdies. His length off the tee is a distinct advantage especially when the course is playing as long as it is. Runner up was Anthony Oldfield (6) with a score of 73 nett on a countback. The best scratch score was again ‘Mr Consistency’ Justin Nelson (1) with 75.
B grade saw another countback with the winner being Brodie Carter (18) from runner up Carlos Garibotto (13) with both golfers carding scores of 71 nett. Best scratch score went to Jason Murray (13) with a score of 85.
The medals went to Thompson and Cameron while the B grade medal will be played for next medal day between Carter and Garibotto who had tied.
