Saturday’s golf started off in freezing frosty weather but as the day progressed golfers were shedding their jackets and jumpers to enjoy a beautiful day for the club’s versus par event.
Countbacks were needed in A grade to decide placings and following a par back nine the winning voucher went to Anthony Boza (3) with a score of +1. Runner up also on +1 was Club Captain Chris Keller (5) who is waiting for his new set of irons but after such a good round he may be having second thoughts of changing.
The best score of the day came out of B grade with Dallas Tilley (11) finishing with a score of +4. He came to life over the back nine carding a score of +6 which was excellent golf on a course set up with some very tough pin positions. Runner up was Matt Dickson (13) with a score of +1.
C grade winner was Deanna Goodsell (22) on +2 keeping her target of reducing her handicap to under 20 and judging by her form over the past month it should not be long before she does. She puts her good form down to her books on golf psychology and it seems to be working. Runner up was Peter Dykes (22) on +1 and it is good to see him making a countback to competition golf.
Vouchers went to Chris Goodsell, Blake Goldspink, Les Goldspink, Damien Marjoram, Steve Mays, Peter Hall, Jason Murray, Dean Webb, Brendan Roach, Dave Thompson, Leonie Hughes, Graham Dean, Mark Seckold and Harry Bender. Cut was -1.
Nearest to the pins were: 2nd Josh Jones (94cms); 4th Damien Marjoram (158cms); 9th Steve Mays (68cms): 13th Chris Keller (254cms) and 18th Tim Wiley (155cms).
Saturday’s event will be a two ball best ball stableford.
