There was a good field of golfers considering that a dozen of the club’s regular golfers were finishing up their two week’s golf holiday in Vietnam. The event was the popular two ball best ball where both golfers have to play well but more importantly they have to combine.
That is exactly what the winners did when two of Lithgow’s former all round sportsmen and now keen golfers Robbie Millar (19) and Dave Thompson (4) took out the two ball with a score of 45 points.
It was also a special day for Zach Jones when his perfect tee shot found the bottom of the cup on the par three 13th and he will be awarded the customary bottle of scotch and have his name placed on the hole in one honour board. Both Millar and Thompson had personal scores of 37 points with Millar showing consistency with his nines of 18 and 19 points while the big hitting Thompson also amassed 37 points with his round featuring two birdies and an eagle 3 on the par five 15th.
Runners up was the “golfing sisters” Julie Murnane (20) and Carol Osborne (27) one point behind the winners with a score of 44 points. Both girls played well with Murnane starring for the team with 38 personal points.
A single event was held in conjunction with the winner’s voucher going to young James Bennett (20) with the outstanding score of 40 points. Runner up on 37 points was club champion Harry Bender (+2) who was ‘on fire’ over the front nine registering five birdies on the front nine and one on the back finishing with a score of 69 off the stick.
Vouchers went to Rob Hawes, Chris Keller, Steve Hall, Connor Milne, Aaron Minton and Josh Jones. Cut was 42 points ocb.
Nearest to the pins were: 2nd Darren Hunter (48cms); 4th Troy Luka (178cms); 9th John Bird (219cms); 13th Zach Jones (hole in one) and 18th Carlos Garibotto (140cms).
Saturday’s event will be a two ball multiplier.
